Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Body Mass Index?
A: Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person’s weight and height. It provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems, such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes and certain cancers. For those with a BMI of 30 or greater or those with a BMI of 27 or greater with existing problems such as hypertension or type 2 diabetes, weight loss is recommended. Even a reduction of 10% of your current weight can make a large difference in risk for obesity related diseases. Please give us a call and see how we can help you lose weight and reduce your risk of obesity related disease.
Q: What is Basal Metabolic Rate?
A: Your body uses energy no matter what you're doing, even when sleeping. Essentially, your Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day. If you've noticed that every year, it becomes harder to eat whatever you want and stay slim, it's because your Basal Metabolic Rate decreases as you age. Likewise, depriving yourself of food in hopes of losing weight also decreases your BMR, foiling your best intentions at weight loss. However, a regular routine of cardiovascular exercise, combined with proper nutrition, can increase your BMR, improving your health and fitness when your body's ability to burn energy gradually slows down.
Q: Are the appetite suppressants safe?
A: The prescription appetite suppressants we use are safe and effective for controlling hunger. They are FDA-approved and are recommended by the National Institute of Health for the treatment of weight loss.
Q: Do you use Phen/Fen?
A: Absolutely not. The combination of Phen/Fen was popular in the 1990's but they discovered that this combination caused cardiac complications and the medication was taken off the market. The only medications we use are FDA-approved and are recommended by the National Institute of Health because of their long term safety and efficacy.
Q: What are the supplemental injections?
A: The supplemental injections we use are a combination of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, which include B-12 to help enhance your overall weight loss. They are a program supplement to help eliminate fat, control carbohydrate metabolism, help your immune system and provide energy.
